About us

In 2005 we travelled for the first time to Tanzania, just for vacation.

We explored the Selous Game Reserve in the south-east of the country, spent some days in Dar es Salaam and finally discovered the Island of Zanzibar.

Impressed by the kindness and helpfulness of the natives and fascinated by the islands natural beauty, fast it became clear to us: We will be back.

2006 we crossed Tanzania by train. This was quite an adventure, but again we experienced everywhere the same kindness as the year before. After spending a very impressive week on safari which took us through the Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater to Arusha, we flew again to Zanzibar, where our new gained friends welcomed us cordially.

In April 2006 we got really carried away and bought (unseen) a piece of land on the north-east tip of Zanzibar (in Nungwi). After regular visits and with lots of help from our local friends we have now our own houses there.

Despite all the natural beauty we noticed the lack of adequate medical supply, school material, education and infrastructure in general.

All this motivated us to set up the non-profit-association "Maisha Zanzibar".
